XP Service Pack and IIS issue

By itpro ·
Hi there
I have installed WindowsXP SP1 on my Compaq PC. Now I want to install IIS on it, but each time got prompted for WindowsXP SP1 CD-ROM. However, I do have only original WindowsXP installation CD-ROM and that one gets rejected by installer.
Does anyone knows how to get around it?

XP Service Pack and IIS issue

by larryhyman In reply to XP Service Pack and IIS i ...

Have had the same exact problem. First of all did your computer come with home or pro? If it came with pro and the setup is refusing the cd, you could try to borrow a real xp pro cd from somebody. Now if you got pro on a compaq setup/recover cd, want to know why it's being rejected? (According to Compaq) The xp pro on the computer and/or cd is not the regular full pro... but a cut up liceneced pro from microsoft to compaq.... my solution: told my boss to buy the real xp pro upgrade (yes he called microsoft and compaq) for $300 Canadian or I would refuse to work with that new compaq pc that he bought at staples..... I won, he went back and bought me the xp pro upgrade, now everything works !
