XP SETUP

By mauricios ·
When installing XP Home when windows comes up for the first time you go through a menew to activate or not and so on. In the window to name the computer, at the bottom it gives you the option to skip the step or go next. I chose to skip. when windows started it came to log on window and asked for a password for the Owner account.I have not set an Owner account and of course no Owner password. Does XP Home has a defoult Owner password? How do I get out of this step?

Does it allow you to type in the username, or do you select it from a list? If you can type, delete "Owner" and replace it with "Administrator" and try to login without using a password.

I would re-run setup and enter a name and password (even if blank). At least that's what you can do with XP pro.

My only other guess is to try to use the administrator account if possible.

sorry,

You should select to activate the software at this time or you will continue to receive the logon window,if you should not to activate at this time then you should be able to close the window by clicking on the X and proceeding.

Try running your machine in safe mode(F8 when starting up), if you did not put a password in for your admin account you should be able to log into it and delete/modify any account on your machine. If for some reason there is a password and you simply cant remember it or never put one in, there is a linux based script out there with about an 80% chance of working to allow you to bypass your admin(or any other account) password.
