XP setup problems!

By dblewis ·
Upgrading from 2000 pro to XP pro. Setup stops when reaching about 60% of "installing devices", screen blanks out for about 2 seconds, then after another 15 secs or so the computer restarts and the installation begins again! Want to do a "new install" but don't know how to get out of this loop and restart the setup from the beginning.
Any suggestions? Thanks!

Just boot from your XP Pro CD and start a clean install.

The install will however delete all data from your drive. So do a backup of your essential data.

Install program takes control from the middle of the install ("installing devices") and does not allow the ability to select a new install or anything else. Thanks anyway.

If you cant do the reboot from CD, use a win98 boot disc to start your system and then rename the windows directory and remove the start up and boot files. then access the CD and run the setup file. If that does not work go to the directory I386 on the cd and run a program WINNT this will take a bit longer for the start of the loading program but it will load 99% of the time as it is the full Win load program, not the abreviated version accessed via the setup program.

Thanks eebywater. Did the load via winnt, but they wanted me to use the winnt32 since I was using that file format before trying Bill' latest and greatest (ha) OS. Worked nicely until I got a blue screen (after converting to FSNT etc) saying stop: c0000221 for wininet.dll !!! Can't do anything now. Understand this is the internet dll but how to go from here?? Articles say to load in a good version of this .dll but can't get machine to a command prompt. Can't start in Safe Mode or any other style of startup.
I will post another question on this one, but running out of points!
AHH!
