I have a network with mainly Compaq presarios ( SR1010NX) ITs a mixed network inviroment. ( win98 and w2k as well ) As soon as I update the XP machines to SP2 they become very slow overall, and it takes forever to print.
So, checking Microsoft site I have found nothing that helps. I can tell you what it is not.
It is not spyware/malware, the systems have enough memory, and almost empty hard disks, so this is not an issue.
As a test, I re-installed one compaq system from ogiginal disks, to be sure, and didnt install any extra software, system again was fast, until I installed SP2, and then this system also slowed down.
Firewall is disabled.
I have no idea what can be causeing this or how to trace it, the only things I can think of is incompatable drivers but have not been able to find any info on this from Microsoft, or on Hp?Compaq site. Also have one clone has the same problem.
WHen I use my laptop at the client site, no problem, my system works fine, so I cant see it being a networking issue either.
