XP SP2 BSOD 0x00000024

By sbrain ·
Dell Dimension 4600. Replaced drive with Hitachi 500GB IDE. 40GB partition for OS and 460GB for the rest. 1GB RAM. Fresh Install XP SP1 and all okay. Install SP2 and on reboot get BSOD 0x00000024 (Corrupt NTFS.sys). I uninstall SP2 and everything is okay again. I downloaded fresh copy of SP2 and get same results.

Ran Hitachi's HD testing utility and no errors found.

Any ideas?

Have you installed all of the Device Drivers here?

by OH Smeg In reply to XP SP2 BSOD 0x00000024

This error message appears to happen when you have a Driver problem see here;en-us;Q311564

So I would suggest looking in Device Manager and installing all the drivers that are yet to be installed.

I'm surprised XP SP1 is happy with a 500GB HDD...

I was sure when I first started reading the post that the HDD would be a factor.

Get with it

Jump to SP3, and all thereto. You want to screw things up royally, then fix, that's the way to go.

Unless, of course, the fate of the world depends on your system.

Is that what it is?
