XP SP2 Firewall and UNC

By jlbpotter ·
After the install of SP2 on Windows XP Pro, is there a way to configure an exception in the Internet Connection Firewall to allow access to the Admin Share. I use UNC a lot in the following format. I do a Start>Run>\\computername\c$. This allows me to drop shortcuts etc. on client PCs. You can't do this with the Firewall on. Is there a way to get around it? Thanks in advance.

There is an exceptions tab that allows File and Print sharing, which might be enough for your problem. Windows firewall (sp2 version) can also be configured to allow all communication from an entire subnet or you could specify a scope of address'. You can configure this by going into the security centre in Control Panel.

When you right click on the properties of the lan go to the advanced tab then select exception. Once you are there you can add programs or ports that you wanna use. You must sure that they have a check mark in the them. You may have to restart the computer.
