I've reinstalled XP Pro yet again. I use this machine as a test bed for software, and the OS regularly 'goes south' and requires re installation.

One of the first things I do is install all Windows updates and it usually goes well albeit slowly.

My latest re installation was the first since the release of SP3. It downloaded and installed okay, but I have been able to install any subsequent Windows updates.

Is there a way to avoid installing SP3 and install the individual updates incorporated in SP3?

What updates?

The original XP SP3 posting of 29 Apr'08 was pulled due to a glitch with business application software:

I successfully retrieved that flawed package and installed it into two computers, running XP MCE and XP Pro. I have encountered no problems, but others have reported crashes and have uninstalled SP3.

When Microsoft's espionage software scans your computer for updates, it will find XP SP3, and will only offer you updates appropriate for XP SP3.

Beta tests indicated a 10% enhancement in performance with SP3 compared to SP2. Also, a number of Vista features are incorporated into SP3, providing additional reliability to your operating system.

I recommend that you keep your SP3 installation if it seems to be behaving itself.

If you're using a different one, that may hold your answer.

The last posting was a 520MB package, and I see that it has been updated today. That must explain all the activity on the TR forum regarding XP SP3.
