My company has been having issues with getting consistent backups from Vista machines. Before working on a machine we have a policy to pull the HD and run a full backup of it. Generally we just use NT backup on an XP box to get everything.
However this now fails due to permissions issues with vista. So, if we know we’re going to wipe a machine then we just clear the permissions and be done with it. Otherwise we have been booting into Knoppix and copying the files into a zip folder. This ties up our scanning stations pretty quickly.
We’re looking for something that will allow us to restore individual files/folders if there’s partial data loss and ignores the file permissions while backing up. Any suggestions?
