XP system defaults

By AndeAnderson ·
Ever since an update, about two months ago, our Windows XP Professional systems keep reseeting the user profiles for Windows Explorer to a default I can't find to change.

For example: In control panel, the listing resets to a detail listing and in Windows Explorer the folder settings are all changed to Thumbnail.

These settings change while the system is in use. Even after using "Folder Options" to make changes the system will work with the new settings for a while and then intermittently reset the options.

I have not been able to pinpoint any specfic action which causes this. It is very irritating to be working and when going to open a file to find the Folder View has been changed amd you then have to take time to change the folder or resign yourself to using whatever view XP happens to think is the current default.

Any Ideas???

It's not the fault of the updates.

XP does not hold the views for different folders as well as W98 or W95 did.

One trick that helps some, is to use File/Close to exit the folder rather than the 'X' in the upper right corner.

Thanks. Tried it. Didn't change anything.

It's like XP Pro has a built in random generator for the defaults and changes them even while I am using the computer.

These systems don't happen to be part of an Active Directoy domain?

If so, there may be a Group Policy in place that may be the cause of your problem. Policies are re-applied to workstations periodically while logged in (every 90 min +-30 min by default).

Just a thought...

Unfortunately, they are not. A couple are even stand-alone desktops.

Am I missing a default setting for XP?
