XP System Restore will not work

by ctr2000 . Updated 23 years, 1 month ago

I’ve recently installed XP Pro and haven’t bothered to look at system restore until i put in all the windows updates.
Then today i went into system properties and clicked on the system restore button and it gives a rundll error: an exception occured while trying to run shell32.dll, control_rundll sysdm.cpl, system. And i click ok and system properties closes out. I also went to start/accessories/system tools/system restore and all i get is a little action on the hard drive but nothing opens up.
I did some searching around Tech-Net but didn’t find out anything yet.
The other thing that could have caused this is that when i installed XP Pro i had two hard drives. 8gb and 30gb. The smaller drive i used for files. And the larger i had installed Windows 98, 2000 and XP. At the time Xp only had 2.5gb of space allocated to it; as i was just trying it out to see if everything worked or not. Well XP seem to be working fine and then i decided to get rid of the Windows 2000 partition and format it and give the remaining unallocated space to XP by using Partition Magic 8. Everything went fine and now there is only Windows 98 and XP Pro on the system.

I need to know if anybody has an idea on how to fix system restore without reinstalling the whole operating system. Either by using the registry or whatever else would do the trick.
Thanks.
