XP usernames vanished!

By stergios_nik ·
Hello.

I am dealing with a strange problem in my Windows XP Home.

I switch on the laptop and there are not accounts to use to log on.

The dialog says to select an account to logon but there are not accounts at all to click on.

Any ideas how to overcome this problem?

Thank you in advance.

The user accounts are stored in the "documents and settings" folder hopefully you've made no changes or deleted anything needed.

Boot into safe mode. Log in with an administrator account. Go to control panel and select the users icon. The users should be listed there with the silly icons that have been provided. If there's no users listed add one. Then click on "change the way users log in" and uncheck both selections. This will bring up the old style Windows login screen.

Restart your machine and hold down 'shift' key untill you see the window logon screen.

Logon as administrator and check your user account setting under your control panel.
