    XP – Vista

    by kevin ·

I have one XP PC and One Vista PC. They are connected to each other by cross over cable. the vista can see the XP and all its directories. but the XP can not see the Vista XP. directories are shared and computer names correct. I am connected to the net via a normal moden on the XP PC (no router). I need to share data on the XP PC with a program on the VISTA PC and I am unable to do this. I setup a work group and it shows as the other PC but asks for a user name and password, which is setup but will not accept it.
I want to be able to see the vista directories on the XP PC? All the techs I know are lost now.
    Can some one help.

Your problem here is the Vista OS

You need to set it up differently to XP for it to be visible on a XP Workgroup.

M$ has these directions on how to achieve this here

to get the network sharing working you should have to do the following things:

Install Link Layer Topology Discovery (LLTD) Responder from or Service Pack 3 on your XP machine.

on your vista machine in control panel, go onto Network and Sharing Centre, then click the arrow next to password protected sharing, then choose turn off password protected sharing.

after both of those are done, the computers should be able to see each others shares
