XP's reboot

By rachas ·
Why is it when ever I shut down Windows, it automatically reboots its self, even when I dont want it to reboot?

XP's reboot

XP has a few glitches on shutdown.
This is very true if you have any "legacy" hardware installed.

There is a good XP shutdown trouble-shooting guide posted at www.aumha.org

Go through it step by step, and you should correct your problem.

Recently ran into this problem with a Gateway E-3600 system after adding USB 2.0/Firewire combo card. Motherboard was configured for wake on lan/ring/etc. I went into ACPI settings and changed all to Stay Off. It seems that residual power on USB bus was restarting system as an event. After saving BIOS changes system shuts down successfully every time.
