Yeah we all shine on, like the moon, and the stars, and the sun.

By Michael Jay ·
I must say that the death of John Lennon was the first time in my short life (currently 54 years young) that I actually was brought to tears by the death of a famous person. It was on this very day December 8 1980, 27 years ago that the musician was assassinated by some damn fool with delusions of grandeur that terminated a truly influential and talented man. In the 27 years since I can only wonder just what music may have been had he not been snuffed out on that night?

Some might say that John was a fool and a commie and there is evidence that can indeed verify these statements, but love him or hate him he did indeed say what he believed and believed what he said. From the Wikipedia I take the following quote, unable to verify the actual time of death this will surly do:

?Lennon was pronounced D.O.A. in the Emergency Room at the Roosevelt Hospital at 11:15 p.m. by Dr. Stephen Lynn. The cause of death was reported as hypovolemic shock, after losing more than 80% of blood volume. Dr. Elliott M. Gross (the Chief Medical Examiner) said that no one could have lived more than a few minutes with such multiple bullet injuries.?

Disclaimer: the following web site is not mine and does in fact contain graphic video and lyrics that may prove offensive to some.

That said I direct you to John Lennon?s site which is apparently run by Yoko Ono.

If you go to the video section and select Imagine, your sound is fine; the beginning is silent as if in respect, a moment of silence before the song begins.

Peace and Love to all,

Thanks, Michael!

I recall hearing about his death on the news and thinking that I would always remember where I was. The tragedy of his death seemed to me to have the same weight as the Kennedy assassination or the first landing on the Moon, the events that are so impactful that you know that your mind has taken a snapshot.

I suppose that we as a society will never successfully understand what drives someone to commit such an act. And in many ways, I'm not sure I WANT to understand.

As I didn't hear the first news report until the next day, I tend to recall the anniversary date as a day later. Thanks for giving me a jog.

That was Tuesday

December 9'th, I missed the news on the 8'th as well, but on driving to work on the 9'th I heard it on the radio and was heartbroken.

We will always have the music that he wrote but I feel that that there was so much more he would write.

Sad, but life has a habit of sticking you with things that you really do not like.

Kennedy, there I was in 4'th grade I think, when I got home that day my Mom was very shaken and watching the news. All of it was bad, Kennedy was dead.

Being so young I did not quite grasp the gravity of the situation and watched as it unfolded on TV. Mahaps this was my first look at the reality of life. In the days that followed the news was all that we watched as Kennedy was moved to his final resting place.

As for the Lunar landings, I was there, Glued to the tube as they say I watched and watched everything only wishing that I could be there on the Moon.....

Tranquility base here, the eagle has landed...

The world lost a great man that day

by AV . In reply to Yeah we all shine on, lik ...

I can't believe it was 27 years ago today. He was so talented and left us a timeless musical legacy.

I don't think he would like where the world is at today. I always think of his song "Imagine" when I think of John Lennon. He truly was a dreamer.

Imagine there's no Heaven
It's easy if you try
No **** below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people
Living for today

Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace

You may say that I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will be as one

Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world

You may say that I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will live as one

27 Years

by Michael Jay In reply to The world lost a great ma ...

It goes by so fast, I would bet that many who read these posts are not even 27 years old.

Time goes by like a river, takes no prisoners and moves on and on to the sea.

It is shocking to me that 27 years has gone since that day. I did not even have kids then, now I have grandkids. Yikes...
