Yet another motherboard issue

by nashifb . Updated 19 years, 5 months ago

So one day, doing nothing out of the ordinary, checking my email, the computer completely powers down out of the blue.

I opened the case, redid all connections, blew out any dust, re-seated my CPU, and tried to power up with only the motherboard power connection plugged in. There are no beeps whatsoever.

I tested a different PS with strange results: If the only thing plugged in is the mobo, then I get fan power but no beeps. If I connect the video card, I get a slight jump in all my fans then nothing.

Ive noticed a little amber light on the top of the mobo that stays lit through all of this. I unfortunately do not know enough about my motherboard to reset bios, but it is a

Gigabyte GA-K8U Uli M1689 chipset.

Im guessing that no beeps means a motherboard failure, but I’m not exactly sure and I need some advice whether to replace it or not.

Unfortunately I do not have the resources to test the PS in another system.
