SuSe Linux, Windows, and a Dead Machine

      by zenodaddy ·

Well it happened. After spending the majority of 3 full days setting up Windows on a 40 gig partition and SuSe on a 70 gig partition the fun began. Booted into SuSe 9.3 with no problem, no errors, well, at least I thought. After running the updates SuSe started giving me Temperature errors and shutting down, then windows decided to start locking up, and then after a day of trying to figure out what exactly was going on Linux wouldn’t load at all.

Then the kicker, my system was locking up in the BIOS. Yup, that is when my heart was beating like a man on crack! Now anytime the system decides to lockup or shutdown in the BIOS it is generally always something to do with the hardware, always.

One thing I never really thought of was the hard drive. So I decided to say goodbye to my machine and get ready to build a new one. You see, before I was using Ubuntu and had no problems at all until I decided to give SuSe a run for her money. So after picking my case, CPU, fans, GPU. etc it hit me. Reinstall Ubuntu and see if it will stay stable. Well guess what? My system is up and running with no hiccups. I am guessing that either SuSe was writing to my BIOS or it just did not like my mobo so until I build my new system SuSe is staying out of my system for good! I guess my cheap little ECS mobo is just not good enough for SuSe lol.

And anyone wanting to know what my next computer build is going to be, well… here it is listed in all of its great detail.

Case: ThermalTake Silver X-Windowed Soprano w/ 430 watt power supply

      Mobo: Asus A8N SLI Deluxe Socket 939 w/ Athlon 64 3200+

      Ram: 2gb Duel Channeled 3200

      HDD: Maxtor SATA 250gb x2

      GPU: Nvidia 6600 DDR3 256mb

      Fan Controller: HardCano 12

      Monitor: Duel 19″ Flat Panels

There she is.. and it will be about a month before she is ready lol!

      Worthless Local Weather Sites

      by zenodaddy ·

You know if has occured to me that we are about 2 days away from the most potential devistating hurricane to hit the Texas coast in over 80 years and the local news channels have hardly any information regarding what this hurricane is doing! NBC5I.com is the local NBC affiliate for the Dallas/Ft. Worth area and they have absolutely no information on their main weather webpage about this hurricane! Wfaa.com has at least some information regarding this potential tropical storm to hit Dallas dropping 2-7 inches of rain and having sustained winds of over 50+ MPH, but they are at this time (3:49pm CST) the only local station to carry any news. Just amazing! You would think that the local news stations would have the most up-to-date information but I find myself repeatedly heading to drugereport.com, cnn.com, and noaa.gov.

Thanks a ton NBC, and Fox!

Updates from my previous blog about the computer build. Well all parts have been sent back due to the need to purchase a new vehicle since my old ’95 Dodge cracked the block!! Now I have a brand spanking new 2006 Toyota Corolla S series with 18′ Momo rims. Very nice ride with very high monthly payments…
