Motorola’s next Neo phone could trade camera versatility for a much larger battery.
The Motorola Edge 70 Neo will reportedly feature a 7,000mAh battery, according to specifications obtained by 91mobiles through tipster Sanju Choudhary. That would be a substantial increase over the Edge 60 Neo’s 5,000mAh battery, although capacity alone does not establish real-world battery life.
The phone is expected to launch in India “over the coming months,” Motorola confirmed in a September press release during IFA 2026. No price or exact release date has been announced.
What’s under the hood
The Edge 70 Neo reportedly sports a 6.78-inch 1.5K display with a 144Hz refresh rate and Corning Gorilla Glass 7i protection. The report lists a Qualcomm Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 chipset, paired with 6GB or 8GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 128GB or 256GB of UFS 3.1 storage.
The reported camera setup includes a 50MP Sony LYTIA 710 primary sensor with an f/1.8 aperture, a 2MP macro camera, a three-in-one light sensor, and a 32MP front camera.
The leaked specifications list an 8.49mm thickness, a weight of 204 grams, and an IP64 rating for dust and water-splash resistance. The report also lists Android 16, four major Android OS updates, and five years of security updates.
Four Pantone colorways are expected: Mountain View, Milky Blue, Sage and Gray Lilac.
What this means for buyers
If accurate, the leaked specifications would mark a departure from the Neo line’s compact design. Last year’s Edge 60 Neo featured a 6.36-inch display and a camera system that included a dedicated telephoto lens. The reported successor would offer a larger screen and battery, but no dedicated telephoto camera.
The larger battery could appeal to commuters and mobile workers who spend long periods away from charging outlets, following the battery-focused approach of Motorola’s Edge 70 Max. Independent testing would still be needed to establish Neo’s runtime. Buyers who frequently photograph distant subjects may find the reported lack of a dedicated telephoto lens limiting. The reported 45W wired charging would also be below the Edge 60 Neo’s 68W rating, although wattage alone does not establish recharge times.

What buyers should check before upgrading
For anyone considering the Neo as a work phone, the larger screen could provide more room for documents, maps, and messaging. The reported 204-gram weight is also worth considering for people who carry or use their phone throughout the day. Buyers who prefer compact devices should assess its size before treating it as a straightforward upgrade.
Software support deserves as much attention as battery capacity. If the reported update commitment is confirmed, it would help buyers assess how long the phone could remain in service. Businesses should also check security patch frequency, compatibility with their mobile device management solution, and support for essential work applications before purchasing.
The reported Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 is another consideration: Qualcomm introduced it in August 2024. Buyers should compare performance tests and local pricing with other budget smartphones rather than judging value from battery capacity or display refresh rate alone.
For now, buyers in India should wait for confirmed pricing and independent battery and charging tests. The practical question is whether longer time between charges would justify a larger phone with fewer camera options — and whether Motorola’s confirmed software support would cover the years they intend to keep it.
