Facebook’s ad system: Give Coca-Cola a hug

    Getting friendly with a brand

With the launch of Facebook’s ad system users can add brands as friends, poke them and integrate marketing and targeted ads into their social graphs. Here’s a look at some of the examples and what you can expect. I’m going to add Coca-Cola as a friend.

  • Adding Coca-Cola to my network

When I add Coca-Cola as a friend, Facebook informs me that Coca-Cola will be notified. I go ahead. What’s odd is now I have to wait for Coca-Cola to accept me. Is anyone excluded?

  • Acceptance...from a can of soda

A good hour or so later. Coca-Cola takes me as a friend. I was starting to get a complex.

  • A high school hit; Coke cares

It’s just a tad weird having a brand care about me so much. Here’s the info module on Coca-Cola. Apparently high school kids like Coke a lot.

  • Have you hugged Coke today?

Here’s where things get strange. Coca-Cola wants a hug. Brand meets friend can be a weird mashup.

  • Fat and happy

One question answered: People will write on Coca-Cola’s wall. I’m sure the folks at Coke just love that second comment.
