Five free point of sale apps to optimize your business

    Introduction

    Running a retail business is no walk in the park; many\r\naspects of the business demand your attention. However, selecting and\r\nmaintaining a point of sale system shouldn’t be one of them. A simple point of\r\nsale system should include some of the basic features, like inventory and\r\nregister, and run without much intervention. When a point of sale system is\r\nfree or low-cost, it becomes even more attractive.

    Here are five free\r\npoint of sale apps for the web and desktop.

    Adding an item is list-based and would be\r\ndifficult with a touch interface.

    The payment entry screen is easy to use and\r\noffers some quick buttons for exact payments.

    Erply offers several additional functions (button row at\r\nbottom) that are unique among the products on this list.

  • Imonggo

    Office is where you manage the system and employees and run reports.

  • uniCenta

    The checkout screen contains images of the various bills and\r\ncoins that are used for payment. Oddly,\r\neven though I chose United States as my locale, it still showed British\r\ncurrency. I was unable to find the\r\nsetting to change this, but I would be surprised if there wasn’t a way. Worst case, since the source code is free,\r\nyou could edit it.

    A simple popup ensures that you have given the customer\r\ntheir change before proceeding.

    The Vend Free dashboard is a nice feature, providing\r\nhistorical graphs of overall sales and individual product performance. Many\r\nreports are also available.
