Songo, South Korea is a city being built from scratch with high-speed communication systems installed from the ground level to the top floors of the tallest skyscrapers. Cisco will develop telepresence systems that will be installed in every home – just like any kitchen appliance. For more on Songdo, read Larry Dignan’s blog.
Songdo is being developed on 1,500 acres of reclaimed land in South Korea along Incheon’s waterfront, 40 miles from Seoul. Songdo is within 3.5 hours flying time of one-third of the world’s population.
Songdo builders are encouraged to use “the latest design standards and technologies that reduce energy consumption, increase energy efficiency, utilize recycled and natural materials and generate clean or renewable electricity.” according to Songbo IDB.
Cisco will utilize the Cisco Network Building Mediator to provide a backbone for the city’s communication network.
Songdo will have a Central Park based on New York’s.
