Get festive with our Holiday Technology Tree

The techie tree on display
The holiday season is a big deal here at the TechRepublic Offices — that is to say we like to celebrate. One way we show our festive spirit is with a Holiday Technology Tree. Our techie tree features gadgets, gizmos, cracked open equipment, and TR swag strung up on a tree-like structure created with a camera tripod and lots of Ethernet cable. It is a site to behold as you can see in this TechRepublic Photo Gallery.n
The TR Holiday Technology Tree is on display in the office breakroom. Besides some vending machines, microwaves, and the all-important coffee machine we have a TV with consoles hooked up to it. See I don’t break everything I crack open. n
I also want to acknowledge the efforts of Senior Editors Mary Weilage and Selena Frye and Head Blogs Editor Toni Bowers – the tree is actually their creation.

Gadgets and lights
The Technology Tree features TR swag, old cracked open gadgets, previously reviewed geek gifts, and just about anything other piece of technology we could find laying around.

Flags top it off
Just before these photos were taken the editor elves here in the office attached a gaggle of TechRepublic flags to the top of the tree. One of the flags is so old it shows the old red flag logo.

Near the top
A closer look at the top of the tree reveals the infamous Nazbaztag WiFi rabbit that I found to be so ridiculous. We keep it around to mock it.
Also near the top is the electronic part of the almost as infamous WiFi shirt.

Warm socks
A little further down you can see one of Sonja’s USB heated gloves in amongst several old MSDN CD-ROM and DVDs. It’s okay, they are old — in fact, MSDN software is downloaded these days.

Click of death
The Maxtor hard drive in the middle of this photo was dead so we took it apart for a Cracking Open. There is also an Apple IIc mouse in the shot.

WiFi is available
Besides a new angle on the WiFi shirt detector device, you can see a TechRepublic ball point pen and a circuit board.

Cracking Open victims
There are two Cracking Open victims in this shot. The Blackberry Curve which I cannot claim responsibility for and the 4th generation Apple iPod Nano, for which I can and do.

Wolf King
A more recent cracking open was the Wolf King FPS controller for PC — not our favorite, but it looks good under the Technology Tree.

Flags on top
The tree is topped off with TechRepublic flags. This was one of the original TR swag items in our inventory.

Tech tree fun
So that is the TechRepublic Holiday Technology Tree in all its glory.
Now we want to see your tree – even it is the traditional green variety. We’ll collect all the images you send us and make another photo gallery out of them. You can send the images to Sonja at trolov@cnet.com – just put tree in the subject line somewhere.
