Western Digital’s NetCenter costs between $210 and $330. It can work with Macs and Windows PCs simultaneously.

Netgear’s Storage Central SC101, which costs $130, is a networked housing built to support two standard PC drives (sold separately or bundled, at extra cost, with the device). It is about half the size of a shoebox and has a rounded pot-belly look with four stubby feet.
Maxtor’s Shared Storage costs $280 to $500. Its software works on both Macs and Windows PCs.
Seagate Technology’s Mirra costs $280 to $500. It is so large it could be mistaken for a desktop PC.
