TPG Screen By Screen: Creating GPOs with the Group Policy Management Console

    Group Policy Objects are a powerful way to control what users can do on your network. Microsoft made it easier to work with GPOs by using the Group Policy Management Console. This Screen By Screen walks you through the process of how to set up and use the GPMC.\r\n

    \r\nThe GPMC isn’t installed by default. You can download it from Microsoft’s Web site. Download and double click gpmc.msi to install it.

  • The Microsoft Group Policy Management Console with SP1 Setup Wizard appears. Click Next.

  • Click I Agree to accept the terms of the license agreement. Click Next.

  • Click Finish.

  • From the Run command type gpmc.msc. The Group Policy Management console will appear.

  • Select the domain, site, or OU where you to apply a GPO by expanding the forest and the appropriate domain.

  • You can now start creating Group Policy Objects. From the Action menu, click Create and Link a GPO Here.

  • Type in a name for the new GPO. Click OK.

  • The new GPO will appear in the right pane.

  • Right click the new GPO and click Edit.

  • The Group Policy Object Editor will appear. Configure the required settings. Click Exit from the File menu.

  • The Group Policy Management console will appear. Click the Group Policy Inheritance tab in the right pane to see the GPOs applied to the object.

  • Click the Delegation tab to view which users and groups have permission for the object.
