OnePlus 15 owners in India are getting Android 17 ahead of schedule. The stable ColorOS 17 update has arrived before its originally planned October 29 release.

OnePlus confirmed the rollout on October 22, with the software reaching eligible devices in batches. The update introduces interface changes, improved background app management and expanded AI tools as the company moves from OxygenOS to ColorOS.

The release follows an August beta program and advances OnePlus’s transition away from OxygenOS. Owners now face decisions about installation, app compatibility and whether to keep the new software.

ColorOS 17 brings new AI tools and interface changes

In its official rollout announcement, OnePlus identifies the Indian firmware as CPH2745_17.0.0.102(EX01). The company has confirmed the stable OnePlus 15 rollout in India but has not provided a country-by-country timetable for other markets.

The stable release follows an August closed beta program in India for the OnePlus 15 series. On October 23, 91mobiles confirmed receiving the update on its OnePlus 15 review unit, which was already running prerelease software.

An upgraded Laminar Flow Engine aims to reduce lag under heavy memory loads and improve background app management. OnePlus says the system uses on-device modeling to prioritize active applications, although independent performance results for the stable build remain limited.

The update also expands the phone’s AI capabilities. Mind Pilot gains an Agent mode for organizing files and generating reports, while Mind Space can save and summarize supported documents, including PDFs and Word files.

OSee adds document scanning, text extraction and translation capabilities. An updated Translate app combines photo, voice and text translation in one interface.

Security additions include AI Face Swap Detection for video calls and improved AI Scam Call Detection, which can flag potentially synthetic voices. OnePlus has not published detection-accuracy figures for these features.

The interface also receives redesigned Quick Settings, notification panels and lock screen animations. These changes accompany OnePlus’s broader move toward OPPO’s ColorOS.

Under its updated software policy, eligible existing users can choose whether to adopt ColorOS. Previously announced support commitments remain in place, although software and security update periods vary by model.

ColorOS 17 rollout expands beyond the OnePlus 15

OnePlus 15 owners in India can check for the update through Settings > System & Updates > Software update. After installation, the firmware can be verified under Settings > About device > Version.

Because distribution is phased, availability may differ between eligible devices. Such variations in Android update schedules can depend on the manufacturer, device model and region.

Users should back up important files before updating, particularly if they might later return to OxygenOS 16. OnePlus provides rollback instructions for the OnePlus 15 but warns that downgrading erases all device data. Owners should verify that the available package supports their model and intended OxygenOS version before proceeding.

IT teams supporting OnePlus devices should test authentication apps, device management software and other business-critical applications before wider deployment. Users encountering problems can submit reports through the OnePlus Community app or dial *#800#.

The rollout has already expanded beyond the OnePlus 15. On October 26, ColorOS 17 began reaching the OnePlus 13, 13s and 15R in India, ahead of their originally scheduled October 30 release.

The early expansion brings Android 17 to more OnePlus devices, but availability remains region-specific. OnePlus has not announced a country-by-country timetable for the OnePlus 15 outside India.
