While work location is usually the biggest sticking point, particularly for employees who have received return to office orders and remote work is no longer an option, even in hybrid form, flexibility around working hours is also up for debate.

Case in point the 4 Day Week Global pilot program, which has seen hundreds of companies globally adopt a 32-hour, four-day working week to demonstrate that a reduction of working hours has no impact on productivity, and — in most cases — increases output and company profitability.

Proponents of the scheme are emphatic about the benefits a four-day week can bring; better work-life balance and mental and physical well-being are just two of the main examples.

And in April of this year, new legislation was filed in Massachusetts to allow any business that transitions its working week to a four-day week to avail of a tax credit.

However, it seems the majority of U.S. workers would rather pocket extra cash than an extra day at the weekends.

That’s according to recent research, which found that 74% would rather receive a once-off $50,000 bonus than work a four-day week.

Interestingly, the study also established that remote work is more valuable than time off, with 36.6% stating that they would forego a $40,000 bonus if it guaranteed remote work for life.

However, over half (57.4%) shared that they would rather work an in-office job that allowed them to dictate their own hours over a remote job with fixed working hours, highlighting that location doesn’t always dictate flexibility.

Whatever your current work situation, if your job isn’t giving you the flexibility you’re looking for, it could be time to look for an opportunity in a company that aligns with your needs.

And if that is the case, the TechRepublic Job Board is the perfect place to start your search, as it features thousands of jobs in companies that are actively hiring, including the three below.
