After much debate over which MMORPG I would choose to become my new game home, I have yet to commit to one. However, the great debate on the discussion thread led my partner in geekdom to return to Azeroth (the world in World of Warcraft). Of course, this means that I am regularly regaled with anecdotes from the WoW subculture, which reminds me of what I loved about WoW so much in the first place.

More than the game, I love that WoW is a phenomenon that sparked an entire subculture. I love meeting new people and surprising them by asking “Horde or Alliance?” when the subject of video games has not been introduced. Sometimes, I can just tell that a person plays WoW. Something about how serious gamers hold their shoulders indicates too much time spent over a keyboard. (They really should put a note on the WoW packaging recommending that you go ahead and invest in a comfortable desk chair — perhaps the Herman Miller Embody chair.) Then again, sometimes I can find another Azeroth resident by how a person speaks. I used to spend my lunch breaks reading about the WoW subculture, and one of my favorite things has always been the WoW fan art galleries on Blizzard.com.

We here at the Geekend blog thought it would be great fun to host our own WoW fan art gallery, so I contacted Blizzard, and they granted us permission. So, if you want to submit your WoW fan art for the TechRepublic gallery, here’s what you need to know:

  • All submissions must be your own original work.
  • You must hold the publishing rights to your submission.
  • Submissions should not have been published previously elsewhere.
  • Images may be in .png or .jpg formats only.
  • Image sizes may be only be either 1024 x 768 or 1280 x 768.
  • This gallery is for WoW fan art only. If you are interested in a fan art gallery for another game, let us know in the comments to this post.
  • Email submissions to: enews2 at cnet dot com.
  • Make sure to include “WoW Fan Art” in the subject line of your email.
  • Make sure to tell us in your email who to credit for the work.

So submit your original WoW artwork and earn some TechRepublic bragging rights. I’m particularly interested to see if Technologia Guild members answer the call.
