Printing a document dskt light comes on

By bmooremphs ·
My question is when printing a document in Word,
wordpad or notepad the dskt light comes on as if
the system is searching for a files?

History: This is a GAteway system running
Windows 98. We recently reloaded Windows 98 and
installed a CD RW drive. The documnet prints
when the printer icon is selected then the dskt
ligth (green) comes on. Just wondering if anyone
has experienced this problem? The reason we reloaded Windows 98 is we were having trouble with
the tape SCSI drive on the system, we replaced the tape drive and had trouble getting the system back up so we reloaded Windosw 98 and
restored files from tape backup.

This is "normal" behavior.
Unlike DOS, Windows doesn't print directly to the printer.

Windows creates a file with the information to print the document, and stores it on the hard drive.
It then calls up the printer control panel (another disk access) and begins printing.
After the document has printed sucessfully, it then deletes the "spool" file.
