XP won't recognize my Philips CDwriter

By latonyb ·
I was running win98se and upgrade to XP pro and now I can't burn cd's because XP sees my writer as a standard CDrom, how can I get it to work as a burner again.No driver is available from Philips.

Have you tried a patch, or checked Microsoft Knowledge Base?

Also, check the actual buring software - SOMETIMES it will still pick up the burner

The Philips drive that I have came with Adaptec software.

If yours did too, you need to do the following;
1. Install the critical and compatability updates from Microsoft. I beleive there are at least 2 patches that are required to get the CD burner operational.
2. Install the apropriate patches from www.roxio.com
Depending on your version of the software, there are different patches, and a specific sequence to be followed to apply the patches.
