I am setting up 10 PC’s for an Internet Cafe. 1 Main PC to monitor the use of the 9 User PC’s. The main PC will be acting as a Server, there is no Database or anything like that, the other 9 PC’s are going to be rented to customers. The Server PC will just monitor the amount of time each user PC is online. Aswell as monitoring what gets DLed on the 9 user PC,s. All PC’s are running WinXP PRO OS, Server has 512MB RAM, Celeron D 2.40 GHz. The User PC’s…5 have 256MB RAM, 800MHz VIA Samuel 2 Processors, the remaing 4 User PC’s are DELL reconstructed PC’s with Celeron 2.40 GHz, 256MB RAM.
Here is the setup that I have planned…
512 Kbps Modem (Using a Partial T1 Line…real thick black cable that has an adapter at the end with a really thin black cable. The thin black cable goes to the Modem. IT DOESN’T CONNECT LIKE A REGULAR CABLE..i.e…TV Cable.)
Modem–>NetGear Router (WAN PORT)
Server PC–>Router (LAN PORT 1)
8-PORT Switch (PORT 8or7)–>Router (LAN PORT 2)
8-PORT Switch (PORT 8or7)–>Router (LAN PORT 3)
4 User PC’s connected to Switch #1
5 User PC’s connected to Switch #2
Any comments, is there a better way to set this up? Different Config? I ran into a big problem with the Router. I can’t get on the internet or see the Network PC’s when using the Router. I can sometimes get on the internet when everything is connect to only the Switches…Why is the Router not working? It marks an AMBER LIGHT when connected to the modem, instead of a GREEN LIGHT. I do get the IP and all the info on the Status of the connection….PLEASE HELP…ASAP !!!!!!
