2 different n/w PC work without a router

By rohit_2712 ·
when i assigned two different class ip add. on two different PCs i.e. 192.168.10.1\24 and 10.0.0.1\8 resp. they started pinging each other as i repeated the same ip add. on their default gateways (i.e. 192.168.10.1 and 10.0.0.1 resp.), what can be a probable reason for this act?

if you plan on doing a lot of networking, it would benefit you to look at something like 2000 server MSP study guide, or "teach yourself tcpip in 14 days"... it looks like you're assigning 10.0.0 address on 1 pc and the 192.168 on another pc. If all you want is for the two computers to talk to each other, assuming you have no other computers attached to your network:

1st pc config
ip address 192.168.10.1
subnet mask 255.255.255.0
default gateway - blank

2nd pc config
ip address 192.168.10.2
subnet mask 255.255.255.0
default gateway - blank

Are you connected to the inet?
How secure is your network?
How did you know they were ping each other?
If you are connected to the inet, really run all the right tests and still see ping from these pcs then someone is trying to gain control of your whole set up. Please downld and install zone alarm for some security.
