2000 server with XP Pro

By rjgould9r ·
Was running 2000 Server using Win 98 clients in a workgroup. Changed clients to XP Pro. Ran network setup using same workgroup name but when I try to view workgroup computers I get a message "workgroup is not accessable. You may not have permission to use this network resource. "Is there a permission policy I need to set on the XP client or on the 200 Server? What am I missing?

If you are in a workgroup setup, logon credentials are stored locally in each machine. Therefore, you need to add your username and password in all machines, in order for you to access a network resource. For example, if you have the same username in the server and the xp client, but with different passwords, you may get an access denied error message, because of conflicting credentials.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the advise. When I went in under Computer>Properties>Computer Name>Change and entered the workgroup name there, it worked. Going through the Wizard did not.
