To setup your home network, use Control Panel/Network Setup Wizard on one of the pc's to create a floppy disk to use on the other pc to configure it for you.
To remote control one from the other, use Remote Desktop. you enable the remote desktop host on one pc and the client on the other pc and make sure both are allowed thru the xp sp2 firewall.
The internet articles from microsoft are hash on this subject but Windows XP Help is pretty good.

How are you trying to access them now? Are you tyring to go to \\computername\sharename or are you trying to map network drives to them?

Does it not show in My Network Places? Also, if you have your XP sp2 firewall on, you would need to add file and print sharing to the exceptions list. You cannot browse another computer if that is being blocked.

kelly , best if you use pc anywhere , remote admin or anyplace control .While installing the menus are self explanatory , but here is a short description . on the pc that you want to monitor you install the remote admin server mode . on the pc which you will use to control the other pc you load the viewer mode . if you have the cables and ip addresses configured correctly you will be able to see,and control the remote ..as well as other things.
