accessing a shared folder on a workgroup XP PC from a domain XP PC

By NBR5 ·
This has been driving me crazy. I have a pc that is on a domain (let's call it DOMAIN), and another one that is not and is instead on a workgroup (let's call it WORKGROUP). Once I could easily connect to a shared folder on WORKGROUP from anywhere, including Macs.

I had to reformat WORKGROUP and reinstall everything same same, but I cant connect to it anymore, although it's exactly identical to what it used to be before. (including IP configuration, etc...)

everytime I try to connect I get the famous message:

you might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions.

Logon failure: the user has not been granted the requested logon type at this computer.

I turned off the firewall, and I practically have nothing to prevent connection. the weird thing is that I can connect still easily from macs, but not from the pc's. knowing that the shared folder on WORKGROUP is totally open to everyone, both through sharing and security.

Any thoughts? Pleaseeeeee??????

thanks in advance for your time.

How are you trying to connect to this file share? Mapped drive? Browsing?

I tried both.

I try through browsing, I try through the net use command (or is there another one?), no use.

Also I had an administrator account on the WORKGROUP, and now I disabled it, because some suggested it's conflicting somewhere on the network. so now there is of course an account on WORKGROUP with a administrator privileges, but it doesnt help much.

You need to add accounts

to the workgroup computer.
Add a local account (with password) for each member that needs to connect i.e. if JohnnyB needs to connect add that account and his password.
