    Accidently demoted PDC!

    Locked

    by truwarrior22 ·

I accidently demoted the main PDC. I was able to repromote it and everything looks ok, but is there anything I should check?

Don’t ask how I accidently demoted it but lets just say PCA tricked my mind lol!

Does windows 2000 server even have an PDC anymore or do all the domain controller just work togeather?

    Thanks for any input!

There is indeed a PDC Emulator in Windows 2000. There is no demoting it to a BDC. You can only:

Move the role to another domain controller

      -OR-

Demote that domain controller entirely out of the domain, in which case the entire domain ceases to exist or the role is moved to another domain controller.

You can use Active Directory Users and Computers to see which domain controllers are holding roles in the domain.

        Thanks for the reply.

It appears the domain still exists and is functional, but under Active Directory Users and Computer, all server appear as Domain Controllers, there is nothing specifiying a main domain controller.
