Accounting Software Packages

By AWJackson ·
When is it the other guy's fault? I'm currently conducting a "full-blown" systems audit on our accounting package and am noticing errors that I would have never even dreamed of. In back tracking, log observing, and even physically watching users I'm seeing why some of the problems weren't initially noticed. We're currently using Syspro's Encore, and have noticed that some journals aren't posting to distribution reports which in turn is not getting to the G/L, the term "with MTD activity" actually means activity that doesn't 0 itself out (i.e. 3 sales and 3 credits wouldnt be on a movement report), that sometimes the system will just make an adjustment for you and not provide any detail as to why, etc...? When are problems like these going to be problems of the software makers. In no defense of WorldCom, Enron, Xerox, Bristol Meyers or any of the others currently undergoing issues with regards to there accounting, I have to admit that if a time consuming, cost bearing, and truly frustrating audit of your system functionality of doing what it's suppose to be doing isn't done routinely your company could be added to this list. If there are any other Encore users out there, please post a comment I'd like to talk with you.
