Active Directory

We were running windows server 2003. We recently bought another windows server 2003 with R2.
Now my problem is i cannot join in domain to become the child for the existing domain.
The article says that i need to modify the old server for R2.
Our issue is what is the impact if we upgrade old server with R2.
We are running 98 and Me computers in the network. Am i going to have any problems to connect the server if i upgrade to R2.
please help me out.

Read the Install Guide!!!!

There is a schemma update to apply. Don't know if it will harm the 98 / ME clients but then I don't run these clients (unsupported) with 2003 - negates 50% of the reason to have 2003.

Better to test first or install 2003 (not R2)!!

AdPrep it

You need to run ADPREP from the 2003 R2 disk to update the schema on your domain. The impact is very minimal, your existing 2003 domain should work as before. I just adds a few new features in particular things like deploying printers via GPO etc.
We have done it on our 2003 domain, no problems.
