Active Directory backup

by jojolangelot . Updated 16 years, 10 months ago

Hi,

Excuse my strange accent, I’m Swiss.

I’m on 2 domains with 2 Windows Server 2003 domain controllers.

I would like to backup Active Directory every week and be able to get it back on another server in case of a crash (a big one with flames and smoke, like…). On both servers.

I’m not much interested in replication ’cause my servers are distant and only connected through a DSL connection (with a VPN).

I have a spare server on Windows Server 2003 that I would like to use for that purpose : having it ready to get any of the 2 Active Directory that would crash first.

I’ve successfuly done the backup with ntbackup but when I restore it on the other server, the server gets a BSOD and reboots.

I haven’t found anything on the net about restoring a system state backup on a different server, so what propositions do you have ?
