Active Directory queries

By terry.simpkins ·
I am looking for a tool that will allow me to research questions about the Active Directory. specifically I am looking to find:
- what users have passwords set to never expire?
- what users have access to a specific folder? (automatically resolve members of groups)
- list all users that have not logged on in x days.
you get the idea. I have heard of some inexpensive tools for doing these sorts of inquiries, but can't seem to find one now when I need it.

Go to http://www.microsoft.com/technet/scriptcenter/scripts/ad/default.mspx

You will probably find the scripts you need.

Me, I use Dameware NT Utilities for this type of thing. It has full AD support.

Used it for years now, and not sure how I could live without it.

Netwrix tools

by ITsteve13 In reply to Active Directory queries

Thanks for your inquiry, Terry. And kudos for making a proactive effort to effectively monitor Active Directory activity! In response to your needs?finding user passwords with no expiration date, finding users with access to specific folders and listing inactive users? I am happy to report that there are in fact several inexpensive (and in NetWrix?s case free) tools that are available to serve your needs.
NetWrix Password Expiration Notifier will tell you exactly what users have passwords without expiration dates, as well as those users whose passwords are nearing expiration (and send automated e-mail reminders to users). NetWrix File Server Change Reporter sends daily E-mails highlighting changes (access, permissions, etc.) made to sensitive files and data, while the commercial version will also tell you exactly who made the changes. Lastly, NetWrix Inactive Users Tracker tracks all users who have not in for a specified amount of time. Together, these three NetWrix products can address the above-mentioned needs without spending a dollar. Download the tools at www.netwrix.com
