Additional DC to SBS2003 domain?

By vtjp ·
Hi,

My AD Domain controller is running ing 2003 SBS server. I'm now deploying 2008 R2 server to become my DC someday.
Is it possible to add additional domain controller in 2003SBS AD when new server is 2008 R2?

I know that it is possible ot add new dc when it's not SBS but what about 2008 R2 (Enterprise)?

Sure

by Churdoo In reply to Additional DC to SBS2003 ...

ADPREP the SBS box with the 2008/R2 AD Schema and the 2K8 R2 rig can become a second DC on the SBS network. Note you will not be able to transfer the FSMO roles from the SBS box as SBS requires itself to be the master.

Yep, got that.
Any change to migrate roles to additional when needed? I'm about to retire old SBS

if your going to retire the SBS box, you have 3 choices. migrate SBS to new hardware and perform an inplace upgrade. install SBS 2008 on new hardware and migrate from old SBS domain to new SBS domain, or follow microsofts upgrade plan from SBS to Windows standard.

Most using SBS follow the migration path where SBS is migrated from old instance to new instance using swing migration.
