Adobe Reader 8 Install Question

By kwells ·
I'm rolling out Adobe Reader 8 from a login script on a server. My question is -- does Adobe Reader 8 installation automatically uninstall all pervious versions of Adobe Reader? This is what I am finding the happen... not sure if it is what is supposed to happen though.

Thanks

Looks like it

From a completely unscientific ng search it seems that it does although there are a few reported failed installs. I'm unsure if this process is silent by default. Google is your friend.

I did find a tutorial on scripting a silent install of Acrobat (if you haven't seen this already) http://sojoe.info/2006/12/09/a-step-by-step-guide-to-silently-installing-and-configuring-adobe-reader-8/

I haven't tested any of this (I use Foxit). You may find something useful in it though.

Can you provide a link to the search results you got to find the info? Thanks

Google Search

Start with something like http://groups.google.co.uk/groups/search?hl=en&q=acrobat+reader+8+old+versions&qt_s=Search and work from there.

There's some good info on the ngs about getting the msi & cab files from the exe also but I'm guessing you've already got that :)

To quietly uninstall Adobe Reader 7 before installing Adobe Reader 8.1 do :
Start /wait MsiExec.exe /q /x{AC76BA86-7AD7-1033-7B44-A70000000000}
