aggregate connection "server and switch"

By 5jgibbs ·
We are wondering, we want to take use 2 gig links from an x-
server, and hook them up to the 4006 core switch, to the gig
connections. .right now, we are using only 1 of these
connections with an ip of 172.17.200.12.. but we would like to
make 2 gig connection one FAT link to the switch.. now apple os
x has the ?link aggregate? to enable this, but im guessing its not
working because we have to enable something on the ?switch
side? if you have any info on how to do this, correctly, that
would be great, because we can afford some down time, because
it?s the summer, and students are not in, but soon enough, we
will have a school full of kids.

Thanks

Jeremy

Yes, you need to enable same on switch too. Cisco has etherchannel technology which can be used for aggregation. Check your cisco IOS version for etherchannel support.

thx,

use ciscoworks for windows to configure the gigabit ports of the swith to add up to 2 gigabit ( aggregate ) . It does'nt become fully 2 GBit but close to it . If you don't have ciscoworks then you can do the same thru CLI on the console port . They give the cable . Use hyperterminal . go thru
cisco#configure terminal
..........#interface ...
one by one and the submenu will guide you to the etherchannel aggregation . Use ? switch to learn the commands. I am not sure if the webbrowser interface has the option to configure the aggregation . But if you have given the switch an ip and enabled web management go thru it. It is straight forward up to port management . Try and see etherchannel aggregation is an option .
