All Games crashing!

okay how to word this question now...running Win2k with SP3 & directX9 with loads of HDD space & 512mb ram, have doubled the virual memory!

All my games keep crashing with a Creative labs Extigy2 Platinum sound card after say maybe 5mins play if that at all, if you try to reload the game & start playing it will crash even quicker.

I do remember seeing a support related question on the Hitman website but this wasn't for hitman2, which is just one of my games..co-incidently all my games arepatched up to the latest patch..the answer to that question was something to do with disabling EAX..I have played some of these games on an old SBLive 5.1 soundcard & never had any problems period!

so I guess my question is does anybody have any theories/suggestions as to what might be the cause...I also have a Nvidia 128mb graphics card with the latest drivers for that as well, for Win2k..my partition is a fat32 partition!

I saw something along this lines for an nvidia and sound blaster just needing updated drivers for the sound card. You didn't mention updated drivers for that above so start there. If you disable sound in the game does it work?

have you tried removing directx, and installing an older version like 8.1? There's another article out here with links to directx uninstallers.

I have the latest drivers off Nvidia's website for win2k, I have recntly flattend & rebuilt the PC up from scratch seeing if maybe it might have been a configuration problem, I changed from a SB Exity platinum external to an Internal & downloaded the latest drivesr from the creative labs website but still the same problem persists..a head wrecking problem!!

Sounds like you've ck'd all the other stuff have you scanned for virus'??

Were you running win2K before or is that new too.. alot of games still aren't compat. with XP and 2K..

Lastly, have you ck compat. between the sound and the video card... alone they are probably great but do they work together??.. I have seen on some Dell units where this has been the problem

Ys I was running Win2k before I flattened it & did a clean install, I have Mcfee Virus scan the latest version that is out & am pretty sure there is no virus present on my PC.

As far as I'm also aware there are no conflicts between graphics & Sond cards as have the latest drivers for both!
