I’m looking for a NAS device that we can also plug a Dymo USB label printer into.
We don’t need RAID, although having a second drive that’s removeable and swappable (needn’t be hot swappable) that we back up the first to and rotate in another drive would be very good). Or the ability to attach an external USB HD to achieve the same thing with.
Anyone done anything like that?
DETAILS
We currently have a shared folder on a Windows computer and a Dymo Printer (on USB port of that PC)
I want to move that stuff to a NAS device.
I’m looking at :
NetGear Ready NAS Duo – This seems to be Unix or Linux based but says you can plug Windows or Mac printers into it and has a printer server. -I’m not completely sure if it’ll support my Dymo printer. (One source says a similar Dymo printer to mine (330 vs. my 440 ) is supported but a review said they couldn’t get the dymo printer (didn’t specify which) to work) and another post said printing didn’t work well
-Very easy to use RAID.
HP MediaSmart Server (EX470) -this is Windows based so more likely to be able to install a printer driver, although even that is not guaranteed. It uses 2x as much power (60w), approaching that of a basic PC http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2247237,00.asp
