How does application integration work and what is it's importane. Also examples of companies trying integration of asset maintenance applications and financial applications, and how would this take place

Seamless data transfer

The idea of application integration is that you ahve the different programs automatically transferring information back and forth without any corruption or loss in operation. Integration of assets maintenance and finances is so common that most goodfinancial packages incorporate a full asset package as an option.

The idea here is that when tech B does work on an asset he enters the details of work and costs in the asset database and the cost information is immediately passed over to accounting to adjust asset values (if needed) enter the costs in the relevant cost sheets and pay any relevant account. Thus the one database entry updates the accounting work in the other, minimising entry error by having the one entry point. It should also create cross departmental charges if required.
