Arcserve 11.1 and TandbergData VXA 320 compression

By Gordinho ·
Hi all,

Still have Arcserve 11.1 SRV2 but have recently upgraded the backend tape machine from Exabyte VXA2 to TandbergData (formerly Exabyte) VXA3 1U 10 mag autoloader. The reason for the upgrade is to take advantage of 160GB native and 3.2 TB compressed ratios on the tape media (X23 tapes)

Now I appreciate that already compressed data on the source servers will effect the compression ratio I recieve when these files get to the tape drive but I am seeing very low mb written levels to tape within Arcserve 11.1

Often each tape only has 100 gb written to each tape.

The drive itself is listed in CA\Arcserve "Supported autoloaders" so i don't see a problem.

I've tried the following:

1)Updated firmware on tape/autoloader
2)done full or "Long" erase on tapes
3)registry entry on host server for format with compression on/off

Any pointers would be appreciated. The software is well out of maintenance agreement so can't get any support from CA and Tandberg just say its Arcserves problem...

Cheers in advance

G
