ATX case power button

ATX case power button is occasionlly working how do I by pass the button? My OS is XP pro. If I replace the switch, does it need to be continuious on or only on while pushing in the button?

Momentary

On an ATX computer system, the power switch is a momentary contact normally open switch.

You can bypass the switch by following the wires from the front panel to the motherboard and then place a shorting jumper across the terminals that the switch plugs onto.

Keep in mind, that the switch itself may be fine. The problem could be with the power supply itself, or the motherboard.
