Auto detect shared printer on WinXP

By eric.purwoko ·
Dear All,

Currently I'm managing about 11 WinXP PC for Company X (SOHO). They already have small network (no AD, DNS) only simple internet connection sharing.

Now they have 4 printers attached on 4 PC and they want to share it for 11 others PC.

The problem now is every time I setup Printer sharing, some PC automatically noticed that shared printer (Auto bla bla bla)... but some PC didn't.
So I remove all Auto detected printers then add each shared printer manually.

One day, one of their staff done printer sharing on his printers (we know that his printers are shared printers too). So the printer lists on each PC were doubled... Auto detect shared printer sharing showed.

Anyone knows how to handle this problem? Or maybe have some suggestion to manage this printer sharing policy?

Thanks in advance,
E

I'm also haveing an issue with this feature. I'd like to turn this off. I don't remember where to go to turn this off, and can't seem to find anything usefull online. If anyone has any insight they could share, I would greatly appreciate it!

Thanks,
Juan

Well, as soon as I left Tech Republic I searched online once again, just changed up my query a little bit and found the solution. If anyone else is interested it can be found here: http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=320138

Hei Jquintana,

Thanks for the guide. I thought i did wrong search in microsoft.com, i missed this guide.

btw. in my case we need only do disable automatic search on printers, not folder... we need automatically folder search.

anyway thanks a lot for this info.

Cheers,
EP
