simple

first you need dos bootable floppy with fdisk and format on it.

boot to floppy. fdisk the c drive. make it active.

then reboot back to floppy.

then issue format c: /s

This will format the drive and make it bootable by copying over the system files.

Boot manager

by a420special In reply to back to basics

Install your dos on its own partition. Make sure to have it formated to a fat 16 or 32 for best results. Now if you want dual boot with windows but dos as your initial choice you will need to download a boot manager. You can go ahead and find many at zdnet.com. If your linux go with lilo. Your boot manager program will allow you to choose what os to boot.
If you dont want anything else but dos (ie no windows or linux etc) then simply installing dos will be enough to make it boot from hd. Whhat dos version are you running?
