Backup and Restore NTsystem

By Vuitanh ·
I'm using Backup Exec7.3. I backup a C: drive of a system and then brought up a different NT and Restore with registry option check, but not all are application are restore, and file skips. The system didn't restore the exact of the backup system. What do you I need to do, so that if the harddrive fail I still can restore it back with a different system using the backup tape that was backing up all drive previous time (I also use ghost image, but wondering if this should work like it). Any suggestion or help would appreciate.

not familiar with backup exec 7.3, but it does not sound like a reliable backup application. Skipped files is indicative of lack of space on tape or hard drive. I have never had a problem restoring from ghosted images. For a ghosted hard drive or restored backup to work you must place the restored hard drive into the same original computer, to avoid bios & hardware problems. I use ghost for quick recovery of OS & installed applications. A secondary hard drive for Data backup.

I have no problem with reghosting image. Just that I tried using backup tapes to see if it restore registry and programs like ghost images, but it didn't work. My guess is that it must be local where NT is not running so those registry could be replaced.

With skipping, files, do you use the Open Files Agent during the backup? If not, then any file open on the system will not be backed up.

You did include the Registry (a separte entry) in the backup job from the server correct? Also, you included in the backup Operator in the group(s) you created.

At St. Bernard you can get a free trial of the backup agent for open files if you are missing it.
