Backup Exec Exchange Agent

By tzutzasialbu ·
Hi folks,

I just upgraded the Backup Exec to 11d with Exchange Agent. My question is, for Exchange Server backup, do I still need the Open File Option if I have the Exchange Agent?

Any help would be appreciated.

Backup Exec Exchange agent

by huoml In reply to Backup Exec Exchange Agen ...

Exchange agent and open file option are two different things for two different purposes.

The Exchange agent will backup your exchange data however you configure it, ie Full/Incremental etc.

The open file option allows Backupexec to backup 'open files' when it is backing up your data.

Thanks for the reply

I'm not sure if I need the Open File Option for the priv.edb or this database is backed up by the Exchange Agent.

Thanks!

If you were using 'Open File Option'

for backing up .edb files, that probably was not a good idea.

Did you ever had to restore the backed up .edb file? and did it work?

If you are only worried about backing up Exchange data, Exchange agent will work just fine without 'Open File Option'.

'Open file Option' would be useful if you are backing up the other server data.

Hope it is as clear as mud :-)
